Tooth whitening is a very popular method of keeping your teeth looking great. There are many whitening products on the market at the moment but you are strongly advised to buy these products through a dental practitioner only. There are strict regulations in place to ensure only the safest of products are recommended to patients, and that patients are well informed on the correct use of these products.
At our practice we offer Home whitening. Performed under the direction of your dentist, home whitening is very effective. The whitening gel is applied in custom made trays that fit over your teeth. You will be instructed to wear these for several hours indoors whilst you go about your normal routine. You can continue to repeat this on a daily basis for several days until you are happy with the shade of your teeth. This method takes an average of 2 to 4 weeks depending on the result you are aiming for. You may suffer some slight sensitivity which should resolve 24 hours after treatment has been completed.
There are many toothpaste on the market which help with sensitivity and we would recommend their use.
Why have my teeth discoloured?
Teeth naturally become discoloured as we age, but other factors can also cause that: tea, coffee, red wine, and of course smoking. Some medications also cause discolouration. With professional tooth whitening it is possible to achieve a whiter, brighter smile.
